Opey Gets Her Own

Okay, I’ll admit it. I am a fan of The Oprah Winfrey Show. I have been watching in almost every day for the last 23 years. Days I could not watch, I taped. Now it’s on my TIVO.

Oprah is one of the most powerful people in the US. Her word is law to some. Many would say that she got Barack Obama elected as President. The Texas meat producers sued her because she said she would not eat ground beef because it was dangerous, and they claimed her saying so caused the sale of ground beef to drop. She shows a book on her show and next day it is number one on the best seller list.

When she announced that this season of the Oprah Winfrey show was going to be the last, I was disappointed. I like the show. True there have been some episodes that were a lot of fluff, but most of her shows had a powerful message. She introduced us to the likes of Dr. Oz who gives great medical information on his own show that is now produced by Oprah, Suzie Orman, the financial guru, and so many more.

Oprah may be giving up her show, but she is starting her own channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN. A whole channel dedicated to Oprah’s philosophy. And what is that? Just basically to life your best life. That’s something I try to do everyday, despite the ups and downs of my various afflictions. And I am happy that my cable network will carry OWN. Starting at noon tomorrow, it’s a whole channel dedicated to helping you life your best life. She may not appeal to a lot of people, but somewhere in her show on a daily basis, there is a positive message for us to follow.
