I never had high cholesterol. For years I have been checked and my cholesterol levels were somewhat perfect. I do have somewhat low “good cholesterol” levels, but the “bad cholesterol” is always low.
Last year my cardiologist decided to put me on Lovaza, the pharmaceutical version of fish oils, in prescription form, to boost my good cholesterol levels. It is supposed to be purified, blah, blah, blah. Looking over the side effects, they list flu like symptoms and heightened cholesterol levels.
For the Mt. Sinai stroke study, my cholesterol was tested and for the first time in my life, my cholesterol us considered high! I have not changed my diet. I am not stopping at McDonald’s on the way home for a 1/2 pounder snack. The only change in my diet is the inclusion of Lovaza. Things to make you go “hmmm”.
I stopped taking the Lovaza and I am going to get my cholesterol tested again in a month and see if I have returned to normal or if I am still high. Until then, there is something fishy going on.
