Michael Clark Duncan Had Sarcoidosis

imageApparently, the actor Michael Clark Duncan had sarcoidosis which may have contributed to his death, according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ. Here is the article that appeared on their site.

Michael Clarke Duncan died from respiratory failure, weeks after going into cardiac arrest … this according to the actor’s death certificate.According to the doc, obtained by TMZ, respiratory failure is listed as the immediate cause of death. One of the underlying causes of Michael’s death was anoxic encephalopathy (severe lack of oxygen to the brain). As we first reported, MCD’s organs were severely damaged during the minutes following his initial cardiac episode on July 13th, when the actor went without oxygen for five whole minutes.Other underlying causes include ventricular fibrillation (irregular quivering heartbeat), and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).Organ nodules (sarcoidosis) were a contributing factor to MCD’s death. Two weeks after he went into cardiac arrest, MCD also received a tracheotomy, presumably to aid in breathing.MCD passed on September 3rd. He was 54.

  1. It is sad that such an amazing man could be cut down with a disease that everybody ignores. It shows you that any one of us could be next because the doctors ignore this disease.
I was d/ced from the er days before my open heart surgery because the doctor said there was nothing wrong with me… After all sarc isn’t dangerous like a real disease.

    1. The only time unfortunately that people take notice of a disease that has flown under the radar is when a celebrity suffers or dies from it. Maybe sarcoidosis will come a little into the foreground now. However, the sarcoidosis aspect of his death was not really reported in main stream media, only among sarcoidosis blogs and sites. Main stream only reported it as respiratory failure. So I guess it will continue to be a silent killer.

    1. Thanks for dropping by Adrienne. Sorry that you too have to endure this disease. I know it isn’t easy as I have sarcoidosis in my lungs diagnosed 12 years now and cardiac sarcoidosis diagnosed 11 years now. I know what it is like to live with all you describe except the depression. I am blessed not to be given that extra burden. Just remember that every plight we are given is for a lesson and we never get any more than we can handle. Stay strong. Stay positive.
