You Don’t Have To Be Religious To Be Thankful

What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday? – @Inspire_Us

The above quote I posted to my Facebook page the other day and it got this response from a follower:

“Hello. I’m not religious person, so I don’t find necessary to be thankful for something…”

I am not a religious person. I grew up Catholic, went to catholic elementary and high schools, but am not a practicing Catholic. The last time I went into a church for a mass other than a wedding or a funeral was in 1990. That however does not mean that I am not spiritual. I like to say I belong to no religion, but I pull the positive of the lessons from all religions.

When this person wrote this, I was very somewhat surprised. I never thought that anyone would ever think that it was “necessary” to have gratitude. You don’t need to be religious or spiritual to be thankful. Being thankful is part of the fundamental basis of being human, and is a necessary part of being human. Without being thankful to anything, what is the purpose of our existence?

Hi .. people don’t think or are not realising the impact of their comment – one of the challenges of the blogosphere and no doubt FB and Twitter, though I don’t do those ..

Nope I totally agree we can be grateful and should be for many things in life – in fact everything .. because there’s always an opposite and so anything negative can be turned around .. just being open to life in general and thinking generously …

I’ve come over from the A-Z .. which starts in ten days or so … I hope you’re joining us ..

Cheers and I’d never heard of Sarcoidosis .. which was good to be sent off to look it up – just hope it doesn’t cause you too much discomfort .. and that it is manageable .. all the best – Hilary

Thank you for dropping by Hilary. Yes, I will be taking part in the A to Z challenge. Glad my little blog made one more person aware of this disease. Hope to “see” you this way again. All the best to you too.
