I signed up to take part in the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge, which begins on the first of April, and since signing up, already I found a bit more traffic to my blog. Reading other blogs from the challenge I found a lot of people excited mostly for the amount of traffic that they anticipate their blog will get. I however look at this challenge as an olympic event as far as visitors to my blog.
I know the olympics happen every four years, and this challenge is annual, but what I am talking about is the event itself. When the olympics happen, people come from all around the world to see the games, and for the few weeks that the games happen, where ever they are being held sees millions of visitors come in. Then the games come to an end, and a few hundred people will stick around for a few days, but eventually every body goes home. The olympic village really had to be awesome to have those four or five people stay for good.
And so too with this challenge. There may be tons of traffic to your blog for the month of April, and a lot of bloggers are going to get excited to see their number of visitors rise every day, but at the end of April, when the challenge is over, a lot of that traffic is going to die down, and that's where a lot of people are going to be very disappointed. And they need to be ready.
It's not that I am being negative, but I am being realistic. Unless you can constantly produce awesome posts that people will actually want to subscribe to your blog to see what you are posting every day, reality is going to hit you square in the face. So to all those that are excited for the new traffic that is coming your way hopefully in April, be ready to continue to keep putting out awesome posts regularly if you want to keep that traffic.
To all the other A to Z challenge takers, I say good luck, have fun, be positive, and let the games begin.
