Victorious Vindication

This Is A Blogging A To Z Challenge Post

At the start of the flu season of 2012, I had a flu shot, as I always did since being diagnosed with sarcoidosis in 2006. By the time December rolled around, I already had three bouts of bronchitis, and then at the end of December I had the worst flu I ever had.

When I eventually recovered, I went to my sarcoidosis specialist for my quaterly pulmonary function tests, and my numbers were the worst that I ever had ever since starting to take PFTs. My doctor suspected it was a result of the flu, but still ordered a battery of tests to make sure that my heart was okay and that it was not sarcoidosis acting up again. Everything proved to be okay, so it was decided that my lungs just took a beating from the flu and the bouts with bronchitis.

Over the rest of 2013, my PFT numbers improved slightly and dropped, and danced around. My breathing was difficult at times and I had different episodes of heart issues, all a result of the after effects of the flu. And so I decided that this flu season I was not going to have a flu shot. I realized that I never had the flu until I started to take the flu shot.

What was the alternative? Nothing, or herbal remidies or homeopathics. I opted for the homeopathics. I took flu specific homeopathics in fall of last year, and for the first time since 2006, I did not have a single cold, or the flu. I never even got a sniffle!

I also opted to stop taking Zyrtec for my allergies. It became so that I could not stop taking it, as I would begin itching all over. This winter I decided to get rid of that medication and replace it with homeopathics. I started the homepathics and weaned myself off of the zyrtec, and for the first spring since 2000, I dont have a sniffle, or itchy eyes or any form of allergies.

Last week, I went in for my second quarterly sarcoidosis check up, and the lung xray showed my lungs are the clearest they have ever been and my PFT numbers are also the best they have ever been. My doctor was elated. I was too. The my doctor asked me how did I do it. I just smiled and said “Lots of rest”. Doctors are not big believers in homeopathic medicine. As far as they are all concerned, I got my flu shot in fall, and I am protected.

It feels good to know that my decision paid off. The medical world would have us all believe that we will all die without the flu shot. I decided that for me, I needed not to take it. Too many things I read indicated that the flu shot actually was doing the opposite. I thought that was the case with me. And so I am happy with my decision, despite the criticism I received from a few people when I announced that I was not taking the flu shot. One person told me I was being irresponsible. Well, now I feel vindicated, because I am the healthiest I have been in a long time.
