I follow a few blogs, most of them on WordPress, and I go through my reader feed every morning and read the highlights of each new post, and if the teaser catches my fancy, I will read more, and even the entire thing if I like it. I would then click on the little “like” star at the bottom of the post if the poster has configured their blog to support it. And if the post warrants it, I might even leave a comment. And this is where so many bloggers lack etiquette.
If I took the time to read your blog, and actually comment on what you wrote, please have the courtesy to at least acknowledge the comment. Leaving a comment unacknowledged is tantamount to someone telling you something in person and you just look away withoutsaying anything.
We all blog to get our voices out there, but no matter what, we would love to hear what others think of our writing. If we didn't, then we would configure our blogs so that people could not like or comment on the posts. So if you are going to blog, and someone takes the time to comment on your posts, at least acknowledge them. It just common courtesy.

Thanks for responding! I had faith that you would. I enjoyed the post so I though’t I’d have a bit of fun!
I’m pretty new to blogging myself so have probably done the wrong thing a number of times, but if so, it’s always been inadvertent. I’m trying my best to be a good blogging citizen. I can think of one popular blog (which for reasons of politeness I will not name) that never responds to my comments or even gives likes to any of them.
Although I quite like the blog, I’m probably going to unsubscribe. Not responding can sometimes feel like a deliberate choice, as though every time I smile politely and nod to someone they turn around and slap me in the face. I wonder if i’m being too thin skinned or childish about it, but it really doesn’t seem very polite on their part and it’s hard for me not to feel like I’m being insulted. 😦

My sentiments exactly. I also know of a popular blog where the person never responds to comments. I really find it irksome. If you have no intention to, take away the comments and likes from the blog. WordPress has the capability. So you are not being over sensitive. I haven’t had a chance to check out your blog. Besides acknowledging comments I usually take the time to check out the person’s blog too.
